Empowering Renewal: A Guide to Navigating Your Louisiana OT License Renewal
Renewing your Louisiana Occupational Therapy (OT) license doesn't have to be a daunting task. With the right information and tools, you can navigate the process with confidence and ease. At TinyEYE, we understand the importance of staying compliant with licensing requirements, especially for professionals dedicated to providing online therapy services to schools. In this blog, we'll provide you with a comprehensive guide to renewing your Louisiana OT license, ensuring you remain empowered and informed every step of the way.
Online Renewal Process
To begin your renewal journey, you'll need to access the LaMED Dashboard, the online portal designed for license and permit renewals. It's essential to use a compatible browser such as Edge, Google Chrome, or Firefox to ensure a smooth experience. Remember, all renewals are processed online, except for specific permit holders like physicians in training.
While you'll receive various renewal reminder notices as a courtesy, it's crucial to remember that you can only renew your license 56 days before its expiration date. This timeframe allows you to gather necessary documents and complete any pending requirements.
Payment and Refund Policy
Renewal fees must be paid online using a credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover only). It's important to note that refunds are not issued unless multiple payments are made erroneously. Double-check your payment details to avoid any unnecessary complications.
Handling Expired Licenses
If your license has been expired for longer than a year, you'll need to submit a reinstatement or re-licensure application. For licenses expired less than a year, the online renewal application is still an option, but a late fee will be assessed. Contact the licensing department at licensing@lsbme.la.gov for guidance on the appropriate application.
Continuing Education Requirements
Continuing education (CE) is a crucial component of the renewal process. All LSBME licensees have initial CE requirements followed by ongoing annual requirements. Ensure you visit the Continuing Education page for detailed information on these requirements. Additionally, specific certificates are required annually for Medical Psychologists, Midwives, and Polysomnography Personnel.
Tracking Your Continuing Education
To track your continuing education credits, you must use the CE Broker system. This electronic education tracker is essential for verifying the proper number of credits for renewal. If you're new to CE Broker, you can create a free account by visiting CE Broker. For assistance, reach out to CE Broker directly at (877) 434-6323 or via email at support@CEBroker.com.
Exemptions from CE Requirements
Certain professionals, such as Respiratory Therapists or Genetic Counselors working exclusively for the federal government, are exempt from CE requirements. Occupational Therapists employed exclusively by the state government are also exempt. These individuals must provide a letter from their employer verifying employment dates and a form verifying exclusive employment to the LSBME licensing department no later than 30 days before the renewal date.
By staying informed and proactive, you can ensure a seamless renewal process, allowing you to continue making a positive impact in the lives of those you serve.
