Navigating the path to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW) in Kansas involves several steps. Here is a clear, step-by-step guide to help you through the application process:
1. Eligibility and Application
Before starting your application, ensure you have met all the requirements for LSCSW. Thoroughly read the instructions and review the application form to understand the necessary information.
2. Completing the Application
Answer all questions completely and accurately. If there are any past or current events, such as felony convictions, that might raise concerns about your ability to merit public trust, be prepared to provide additional information. Type or print your responses legibly.
3. Application Fee
The application fee is $50.00, non-refundable. Payment instructions can be found in Appendix A.
4. Transcript Submission
Contact your graduating college or university to send an official copy of your transcript directly from the registrar's office to the BSRB, unless it is already on file from previous licensure.
5. Professional References
Each reference should complete the reference form and return it to you in a sealed envelope with their signature across the seal. Include these sealed envelopes with your application. Two references must be from clinically licensed social workers, and the third from your most recent employment supervisor where you held a social work license.
6. Supervisor’s Attestation
Clinical supervisors must complete the Supervisor’s Attestation form and return it to you in a sealed envelope with their signature across the seal. If a supervisor was approved but did not provide supervision, they must submit a statement indicating this.
7. Out-of-State License Verification
If you have ever been licensed, registered, or certified as a social worker in another state, fill out section A of the Out-of-State License Verification form and send it to the relevant state(s). The state should return the form directly to the BSRB office.
8. Graduate Level Psychopathology Course
All LSCSW applicants must complete a three-hour graduate-level psychopathology course from a CSWE-accredited college or university social work program. If you have previously provided a transcript with this course, you do not need to provide it again.
9. Examination Eligibility
The board will determine your eligibility to sit for the examination once all application materials are received. You will receive a written notice regarding eligibility. The ASWB Candidate Handbook is available for download at www.aswb.org, including forms for special accommodations.
10. Submission of Application Packet
Your completed application packet should include:
- Completed application form
- Application fee of $50.00
- Official transcript (if not already on file)
- Three completed reference forms (one from current employment supervisor, two from clinically licensed social workers)
- Supervisor(s) attestation(s)
- Copy of official position descriptions from all settings where clinical supervision occurred
- Other relevant attachments
Allow 30 days for review of your application. You can check the status of your application on the BSRB website under “Services.” For more information, please follow this
