Getting Your Idaho SLP License: A Fun and Easy Guide
Are you looking to become a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) or Audiologist (AUD) in Idaho? Navigating the licensing process can seem daunting, but fear not! We've got you covered with a straightforward guide to help you understand the essentials. Whether you're a fresh graduate or an experienced professional, this guide will answer your burning questions and make the process a breeze.
How to Apply for a License
First things first, you need to get your hands on the application. Simply head over to the Board’s Homepage and click on "Apply or Renew a License." You'll find all the instructions you need right there.
Examination Requirements
To obtain your SLP or AUD license, passing the PRAXIS examination is a must. If you're aiming for a Hearing Aid Dealer and Fitters license, you'll need to pass both the ILE (written) and IHIS Practical exams. For a SIGN license, a written and performance exam is required.
Do You Need a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)?
While a CCC from ASHA is not mandatory, you must have passed the PRAXIS, hold a Master’s degree with a completed clinical practicum, and have proof of post-graduate supervised experience. Proof of ASHA certification can also satisfy these requirements if received directly from ASHA.
License Renewal
Your license will expire on your birthday each year, regardless of when you renewed it. If your license is reinstated mid-year, remember that you'll need to renew it again within six weeks of your birthdate and provide new continuing education documentation.
Reactivating a Lapsed License
If your license has lapsed for less than five years, you can reinstate it by submitting a renewal application, paying the necessary fees, and providing proof of continuing education. If it’s been more than five years, you’ll need to apply for a new license.
Endorsement and Reciprocity
Idaho does not offer reciprocity with other states. However, licensure by endorsement is available if all requirements are met.
Submitting Documentation
Make sure all supporting documentation comes directly from the issuing source. This includes official transcripts, examination scores, and licenses. For SIGN license applicants with RID certification, a copy of the RID card is acceptable.
Reporting State Licenses
Even if your license from another state has expired, you must report it and submit certification with your application for review.
Changing a Supervisor for a Provisional Permit
If you need to change your supervisor, complete a full permit application form and write "Change of Supervisor" on it. Include a new plan of supervision, but no additional fees are needed.
Requesting a Duplicate License
If your license is lost, destroyed, or invalid, you can request a replacement by completing the Application for Duplicate License form online, printing it, signing it, and sending it with the required fee.
Obtaining Official License Certification
Certification requirements vary by state. In Idaho, you can obtain a free Letter of Good Standing or a Certified Licensure History Letter for a $10 fee through your Online Services account. Make sure to check what the receiving state requires before requesting certification.
