Welcome to the DC Health Licensing Renewal Adventure!
Renewing your professional license in Washington DC doesn't have to be a daunting task. With the new 2021 Licensure Renewal cycle, the DC Health Licensing Portal has made it easier than ever for licensees to renew their licenses online. Whether you're renewing for the first time or are a seasoned pro, this guide will walk you through the steps you need to take to ensure a smooth renewal process.
Step 1: Registration & Login
First things first, head over to the registration page to access the renewal website. New users will need to register by providing their first and last names, email address, license number, and date of birth. After registration, you'll receive a 5-digit Applicant ID via email, which you'll use to complete the registration process and create a password.
Step 2: License Landing Page
Once logged in, you'll arrive at the License Landing Page. Here, you'll see all the DC Health licenses you hold. You can choose to start the renewal application or place your license in Paid Inactive status if you're not planning to practice.
Step 3: Applicant Information
Next, review and confirm your personal information. Update any missing details, such as your social security number, if needed.
Step 4: Name Change
If you've legally changed your name in the past two years, update your information here. Provide supporting documents like a marriage certificate or court order. If not, simply proceed to the next step.
Step 5: Address Information
Update your home and business addresses, selecting your preferred mailing address. Remember, P.O. Boxes are not accepted as home addresses.
Step 6: Screening Questions
Answer all screening questions truthfully. If you answer "Yes" to any question, provide a written response and upload any relevant documents.
Step 7: Continuing Education
Each profession has specific Continuing Education (CE) requirements. You can choose to complete your CEs by the deadline, claim a first-time renewal exemption, or upload proof of completed CEs now.
Step 8: Workforce Survey
If applicable, complete the Workforce Survey, which helps gather valuable data on healthcare issues affecting DC residents.
Step 9: Clean Hands
Attest that you do not owe more than $100 to the DC government. If you do, provide a Clean Hands Certificate or a payment agreement.
Step 10: CBC Screening
Agree to a name-based Criminal Background Check (CBC) as part of the renewal process. A fee of $50 applies.
Step 11: Payment
Review your licenses up for renewal and pay the necessary fees using a credit card. Once submitted, you'll receive an email confirmation of your renewal status.
