1. Read all application instructions carefully.
Before you begin, make sure to thoroughly read the application instructions. This will help you understand all the requirements and avoid any mistakes that could delay your application.
2. Utilize the Board’s website.
The New Jersey Board of Occupational Therapy website is a valuable resource. Regularly check it for updates, FAQs, alerts, and meeting information.
3. Include all required supporting documentation.
When submitting your application, ensure you include or upload all necessary documents. Missing documents will result in a deficient application, causing delays.
4. Pay the application fee promptly.
Online applications will prompt you to pay the application fee at the end. Your application won’t be submitted until you do. Additional fees may be invoiced separately and can be paid online or by check/money order.
5. Submit official transcripts and examination results.
If required, arrange for your school or examination entity to send official documents directly to the Board. The Board cannot accept copies sent by applicants themselves.
6. Provide license verification if applicable.
If you are or were licensed in another state, request that the licensing Board send a verification letter directly to the New Jersey Board. Copies of your out-of-state license are not sufficient.
7. Schedule your Criminal History Background Check.
If required, schedule your fingerprinting appointment as soon as you receive the instructions. There are 17 fingerprinting locations throughout New Jersey, so choose the earliest available slot.
8. Submit all required documents if you have a criminal record.
If you have been arrested or convicted, you must submit a detailed explanation letter, police reports, reference letters, and relevant court documents. Contact the court clerk and attorneys involved for your file.
9. Upload a passport-style photograph.
Ensure you upload a passport-style photograph of your face and shoulders with your application. Other types of photos will not be accepted.
10. Include name change documentation.
If you have changed your name, include a copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order with your application.
11. Notify the Board of any address changes.
After submitting your application, promptly notify the Board of any address changes. You can update your contact information through your MyLicense account.
