Special Education Teaching Certificate Guideline
To qualify for a Special Education Teaching Certificate in Manitoba, you must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a valid Manitoba Professional Teaching Certificate.
- Have a minimum of two years of approved teaching experience in Manitoba or another Canadian jurisdiction.
- Complete one of the two options below:
Option 1: Post-Baccalaureate Diploma or Master's Degree
- Complete an approved 30-credit hour Post-Baccalaureate Diploma or Master’s degree in Education, specializing in special education.
- Include 18 credit hours of core coursework and 12 credit hours of elective coursework.
Option 2: Combination of Coursework and Professional Development
- Complete 18 credit hours of core coursework.
- Complete the equivalent of 12 credit hours through a combination of professional development and elective coursework.
Note: Professional development activities must be pre-approved by Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning.
Special Education Coordinator Certificate Requirements
To qualify for a Special Education Coordinator Certificate, you must:
- Hold a valid Manitoba Special Education Teaching Certificate.
- Have five years of approved experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Special education or resource classroom teaching.
- Professional-level clinical or special agency work.
- Consultative or supervisory experience.
- Submit an official statement verifying your experience.
Application Process and Fees
After completing the required education and experience, you can apply for certification online. The evaluation fee is $60, and if eligible, an additional $50 for salary reclassification.
Ensure your degree or diploma is awarded on your transcript for the evaluation to be completed. Official transcripts should be sent directly from your post-secondary institution to:
