As a Special Education Director, staying informed about the latest research is crucial for addressing the challenges faced by students, particularly in areas like drug use. A recent study titled The Prevalence of and Trend in Drug Use among Adolescents in Mississippi and the United States: Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) 2001–2021 offers valuable insights into adolescent drug use trends, both nationally and in Mississippi.

Key Findings from the Research

Encouraging Further Research

The study highlights the need for ongoing research to better understand the factors contributing to higher drug use rates in Mississippi. Practitioners are encouraged to explore the following areas:

By staying informed and actively engaging in research and intervention efforts, practitioners can play a critical role in reducing adolescent drug use and improving public health outcomes.
