Initial Licensure
Audiology
- Master's or doctoral degree from an ASHA Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) accredited program or other approved agency
- Completion of coursework and clinical practicum equivalent to CAA standards
- Passage of the national examination for speech-language pathology and audiology
- Note: Audiologists may dispense hearing aids under an audiology license
Speech-Language Pathology
- Master's or doctoral degree from a CAA accredited program or other approved agency
- Completion of coursework and clinical practicum equivalent to CAA standards
- Completion of a clinical fellowship*
- Passage of the national examination for speech-language pathology and audiology
*Missouri reinstated the requirement for a clinical fellowship and a provisional license through H.B. 2149 (2022). The Board of Registration is in the process of implementing this requirement.
Exemptions
- Federal employees
- Certified teachers of the deaf
- Students
- Physicians and surgeons
- CAOHC technicians
- Public school employees with a certificate issued before January 1, 2016
- Speech-language pathology assistants under supervision
Note: When a fee is charged or compensation received, individuals must be licensed, including college or university clinics. Supervisors of student clinicians must be licensed.
Reciprocity
The board may issue a license to applicants licensed in another jurisdiction with equivalent or more stringent standards or to Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) holders.
Interim Practice
A provisional license to complete the required clinical fellowship is effective for one year and may be extended for an additional twelve months.*

Continuing Education
Licensees must complete 30 hours of continuing education every three years. Dual licensees must complete 30 hours in each field. Continuing education hours cannot be carried over to the next reporting period.
