Unlocking the Secrets to Successful Online Therapy Licensing: Don't Miss These Crucial Steps!

As the demand for online therapy services continues to rise, the need for qualified professionals to deliver these services is more critical than ever. At TinyEYE, we understand the complexities of the licensing process for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and aim to simplify it for you. Here, we break down the essential steps to help you navigate the licensing process with ease.

Step 1: Application Essentials

When applying for your Speech-Language Pathology license, it is imperative to answer all questions on the application form accurately. Ensure that your application is complete and legible, whether typed or handwritten. Missing or incorrect information can lead to delays in processing.

Step 2: Fees and Payment

The application fee is $150, payable to SLPAHADB. If you're an out-of-state applicant, remember to include the $49 fingerprint processing fee. You can combine these into a single payment of $199. Ensure your check or money order is correctly addressed to avoid any setbacks.

Step 3: Verification of Certification

During your application process, include your ASHA account number. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) issues the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC), a requirement for your application. No separate verification letter is needed, simplifying this step.

Step 4: National Exam Score

To qualify, you must have a minimum passing score of 162 on the Praxis exam, taken within the last five years. If your score is older, you may still qualify if you've been continuously employed as a licensed SLP in another state for the past three years or have completed continuing education in the field. Scores should be sent electronically to the Board using code 8544.

Step 5: Fingerprinting Requirements

Fingerprint clearance from both the DOJ and FBI is mandatory. California applicants must use Live Scan and submit the completed form to the Board. Out-of-state applicants need to submit two fingerprint cards along with the processing fee. Ensure all fees are paid directly to the Live Scan operator.

Additional Considerations

By following these steps, you can streamline your application process and avoid common pitfalls. For more detailed information, you can visit our Frequently Asked Questions page or contact the Board at speechandhearing@dca.ca.gov.
