Licensure Process for LMSW/LBSW
Follow these steps to become a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Bachelor Social Worker (LBSW):
- Mail your completed Application for Licensure form with the appropriate fee.
- Submit your fingerprint results (instructions included with the application).
- Have your college/university mail an official transcript directly to the licensing office. If you are requesting to sit for the examination before graduation, your school must send a letter stating you're on track to graduate. Ensure your school sends a final transcript upon graduation as a license will not be issued without it.
- Once your application has been reviewed and approved, the Committee will notify you via email to contact ASWB and schedule the exam (allow 5-7 business days for processing).
- Upon passing the exam, the ASWB will send your official score report to the office, and your license will be issued (allow 5-7 business days for processing).
Licensure Process for LCSW/LAMSW
To become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Advanced Macro Social Worker (LAMSW), you must already hold a current license as an LMSW in Missouri. Follow these steps:
- Register your supervision by submitting the following for approval:
- Registration of Supervision form and required fee.
- Employment Verification Letter.
- Upon approval, complete a minimum of 3,000 hours of supervised experience within 24-48 months.
- The supervision and the ability to practice clinically will cease at the end of the 48-month period. If you have not passed the clinical exam within that time, you may still be approved to take the exam, provided the supervision still qualifies as per 20 CSR 2263-2.032(10).
- After obtaining the required supervision, complete and submit the following:
- Application for Licensure form and fee.
- Fingerprint results (instructions included with the application).
- Attestation form (must come directly from your supervisor).
Note: You must remain under supervision until the exam is passed, and the license is issued and received to provide clinical services.
Additional Tips
- If you choose, upon completing 75% (18 months and 2,250 hours) of the supervision, you may sit early for the exam. This requires submission of the application, fingerprints, and an email from your supervisor stating that you are on track to complete the required supervision.
- If you change your supervisor and/or setting during the licensure process, you must submit the Registration of Supervision/Change of Status form along with a $25 fee before beginning the new supervision. The $25 fee applies to each Registration of Supervision/Change of Status form submitted.
